The two main reasons why I don’t use gloves to harvest beloved stinging nettle:
🌿 I like to feel the connection between skin and plant. For me, this is where the conversation between human and plant starts to go really deep, within the spark between the two energies. Often times just by touching a plant, you get a sense of who it is and what it has to offer the ecosystem, including yourself. If you wear gloves, how can you truly know the mediciine of nettles and know if it’s right for you? It’s like meeting someone and never shaking their hand. That handshake reveals so much, doesn’t it? The same is true between human and plant. ✨
🌿 The sting is therapeutic. Over the years of harvesting, my fingers have grown to actually find relief in the sting. It’s healing and my body knows this by now, so it doesn’t recoil or react in discomfort anymore. In all honesty, I welcome and very much look forward to the sting these days. It makes my body feel better whenever I harvest. So, no gloves for me!
Besides, I never did wear gloves, so why start now?
Have you ever tried interacting with nettles without gloves?
