Spring Detoxing Rituals 🌷

May the gentle winds of early Spring be flowing softly over your cheeks, may all of your windows be flung open, and may your broom be ready to sweep.

As we welcome the return of this miraculous season, I’m here to remind you that now is the appropriate time to support your body, as it begins its own process of Spring cleaning.

You’re going to be hearing this word on repeat any day now: DETOX.
And for good reason.

If you know me, or follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I’m often rambling on about how we ARE nature. So without further ado…

If you take a moment to pause and reflect on what’s happening outdoors this time of year, do you notice what’s naturally unfolding? Hay Fern is dropping her old fronds, as new ones spiral out. Paw-Paw trees are bursting with buds, as old leaves are forced to drop. Virginia Bluebells emerge out of the soil, and quickly hide last seasons remnants, which will soon be compost.

New growth is pushing through, and with that, all of the remaining parts which are no longer needed for the grow season are shed in their final stage.

And that’s what your body wants to do right now too. Why? Becauseee….we’re nature! 🌿

In order to make sure that your detox pathways are open and ready to flush, you also have to do your own shedding, so to speak.

Here are three ways you can support your body in doing so:

🚴‍♀️🤸‍♂️ Firstly, move, move, move!
Stagnancy does a whole lot of nada for the body which yearns to detox itself. Your lymphatic system plays a crucial role in detoxing, and it relies on muscular contractions, aka good old movement.

🧘‍♀️💃 Nature walks, yoga, qigong, dancing, tai chi, bicycling, or just simple stretching are wonderful and beneficial ways to get your lymph moving. For me, this looks like morning yoga, weekly nature walks and/or rock climbing, and of course, running around our homestead tending our flock and gardens on the daily. 🪿🌱
You don't have to commit to making a habit of a specific practice, just commit to adding some kind of physical movement to your daily life. You just may be surprised what a big difference a little dancing or stretching can make!

Add detoxifying foods and herbs into your daily routine.
🍋 Squeeze fresh lemon into warm water and drink before breakfast.
🥬 Toss some dandelion greens into your salad, smoothie, or lunch sandwich.
💦 Start taking those digestive bitters which you learned to make in my last email. :)
🫖 Sip on Herbal infusions which support lymph and liver such as:
🫚 Lymphatic supporting herbs: red root, calendula, red clover, and ginger.
🌼 Liver supporting herbs: milk thistle, burdock root, dandelion leaf & root, and turmeric.

🥦🫘 Make sure you’re eating enough fiber!
Fiber binds and carries out waste that our bodies create, as well as all the toxins that we’re unfortunately ingesting on a normal basis. Eating adequate amounts of fiber helps our body stay regular, as well as stay clean. This means you gotta eat your vegetables, legumes, fruit and nuts! Our body knows how to clean up, but we must support it, so that it can do so effectively and without any blockages (literally!).

Detoxing doesn't have to be a drastic event, as your body detoxes itself every day. Spring just happens to be a season where it feels better to cleanup after a long winter. Try including some of the above to establish healthy habits to support your detoxification process on the regular.

🌷 Wishing you all a happy and healthy Spring! 🌷

Blessings of wellness and joy,
Katie 🌿
