👋🌿 It’s been a while since I’ve shared my story.
My name is Katie. ☺️ I created Mountains' Daughter to help thread back together the space where we humans tend to stray from our earthborn bond with our natural world.
Through herbalism, foraging, and homesteading via photography, education & poetry, I hope to inspire you to seek a deeper connection to the ecosystem & self. 🫶🌲♾️
Here’s a peek into my inspiration:
🌿 I was raised in a small city, somewhere near NYC & Philly. Despite the odds, my parents always had a beautiful & lively garden. They taught me how to garden when I was a child, so my thumbs have always been green. I spent childhood days playing with salamanders, snakes, butterflies and fuzzy spiders…I’ve been friends with the wild side for most of my life. :)
🌿 Much of the past 10 ten years has been dedicated to my yoga & meditation practices, and travel. I spent my time sitting in silent courses, and in Mysore studios, as well as volunteering abroad. I’ve lived on a permaculture farm, an eco village, an animal sanctuary, and in a bungalow on the tip of SE Asia. These experiences were crucially fundamental and influential to my growth. Nowadays, I feel like the chapter on these focuses is shifting & merging.
🌿 The past couple of years, I’ve been dedicated to honing my knowledge & craft in herbalism. I’ve spent endless hours tweaking and formulating teas, oxymels, and skincare products. I’ve been studying with the Herbal Academy for years. Their courses have leveled up my understanding of the scientific workings of plants & the human body; however, the deepest learning for me has happened out in the forest or herb garden, or with a cup of tea. Getting to know the plants on their energetic levels and in their environment is life changing. For me, foraging wilds & growing herbs is an important life skill & a beloved passion.
🌿 Another passion that’s blossomed over the past several years is chicken keeping! I LOVE having my own flock. They’re therapeutic pets, food providers & sweet friends. I adore them, and admit that I’m a bit obsessed. My girls and roo are spoiled, loved & protected. 🐓✊ Currently, I’m deciding what new animal we’ll introduce to the flock come spring. Geese? Ducks? Quail? Guinea Hens? What do you think?!🪿✨
Thank you for being here. Please introduce or share something about yourself below. We’re all friends here, and I intend this corner in cyberspace to foster a place of support & love for one another. 🤍🫶🌿
